Mel Tucker sends out awesome message to Spartan fans, players and staff
Two years ago, Mel Tucker was named the next head coach at Michigan State. He took over a program that was losing a legend in Mark Dantonio but didn’t run from expectations or hide behind excuses.
In just two short seasons, Tucker has taken Michigan State from a team that was settling for bowl eligibility in back-to-back seasons back to the top of the B1G. Last season, the Spartans were firmly in the race for the conference title until the final two weeks of the season.
Michigan State finished 11-2, which included a win over rival Michigan and a victory in the Peach Bowl. It was one of the most impressive turnarounds in the sport after finishing 2-5 in 2020.
On Saturday, Tucker fired out a message as he hits the two-year anniversary of his hiring.
“Two years ago, I came back to where it all began. I’m luck to call this incredible University my home and I’m proud to be a Spartan,” Tucker said. “Thank you to the fans, players, and staff for your constant support throughout these past couple years and let’s Keep Choppin’.”

Tucker started his coaching career at Michigan State in 1997 on Nick Saban’s staff. He was a graduate assistant for two years before being named the defensive backs coach at Miami (OH) ahead of the 1999 season.
In two years, Tucker has already won over fans after posting an 11-win season and sitting with a perfect 2-0 record against Michigan.
