The coaching carousel has started turning earlier than ever before in the college football world.

There have been rumors swirling that coaches will leave to take high-profile jobs around the country. In B1G country, 2 names have been linked to the carousel: Penn State’s James Franklin and Michigan State’s Mel Tucker. Tucker has been linked to the open LSU job.

Well, you have heard the saying “Tuck Comin,” now get ready to hear the phrase “Tuck Staying.”

It appears that Mel Tucker is going to sign a contract extension with the Spartans, according to a report from 97.1 The Ticket’s Rico Beard.

“I have sources who said it appears that Mel Tucker is going to be getting a contract extension with money around $6.8 to $7.8 million (per year) with escalators and bonuses that could take him up even higher,” Beard said.

Tucker currently makes $5 million a year. A bump up to the figure reported would make him one of the 10 highest-paid coaches in the country.

“Mel Tucker’s about to secure the bag,” Mike Valenti added. “Long-term extension, $6.8 million with incentives to take him to $8 million. It firmly puts him in the top 8 highest-paid coaches. It gets him Ryan Day money. Both Rico and I have heard the same things. This is not new. They’ve been working on this for weeks.”

Though the report is unconfirmed, this would be a huge win for Michigan State to keep Mel Tucker, as he has resurrected the program in just 2 years and has them in the top 10 with only 1 loss on the season. The radio hosts said it was currently unclear when the news would be announced.
