'Mel'tdown: The start of the Mel Tucker era is not going well for Michigan State
Mel Tucker’s head coaching debut in East Lansing has not gone smoothly, to say the least.
Taking on Rutgers to start the 2020 season, Tucker and the Spartans entered the game as double-digit favorites. Unfortunately, Michigan State has looked sluggish, uninterested, and unimpressive in the first half.
It started with the Scarlet Knights rolling down the field for a game’s opening score. After that, the defense for Rutgers has stepped up with four turnovers and another turnover on downs. It has culminated in a 15-point lead for the Scarlet Knights with Tucker and the Spartans reeling early on.
To no one’s surprise, social media was quick to jump on the rough start for Tucker:
The Mel Tucker era could not have started any worse.

Since Rutgers joined the Big Ten (2014) MSU allowed 44 points to the Scarlet Knights.
Since Mel Tucker joined the Big Ten (20 game minutes ago), Rutgers has scored 21 points.

I think Tom Izzo needs to go down on the sideline and give Mel Tucker his whole, 'Turnovers turn into touchdowns' spiel.

Mel Tucker’s rallying cry this week was physical play and taking care of “The ball. The ball. The ball.” Not going as planned so far.
