Michigan State is working to build some defensive depth, adding two defensive backs via the transfer portal over the weekend.
The first commitment came from Marqui Lowery Jr., a freshman cornerback that spent 2020 with Louisville:

Lowery was a three-star DB out of Charlotte, North Carolina for the 2020 class. He did not appear in action for the Cardinals as a freshman.
The second transfer to commit to the Spartans was Khary Crump. Crump spent the 2020 season with the Arizona Wildcats:

Crump initially joined the Wildcats as a three-star DB, also as a part of the 2020 recruiting class. He held offers from BYU, Oregon, Oregon State, and Utah State but did not see action as a freshman.
With the departure of Shakur Brown to the 2021 NFL Draft, the Spartans were in need of some depth on the back end of the defense. Hopefully these two incoming transfers can stick and develop while in East Lansing.
