Michigan State wrapped up a 10-win season in Mel Tucker’s second year with the program and is heading to a New Year’s Six game with a bid to the Peach Bowl. Now, it’s time to continue to improve the roster via the recruiting trail as the team preps for the postseason.

Monday evening, the Spartans picked up an interesting offensive line prospect. Jacob Merritt – an offensive tackle out of Northville, Michigan – committed to the program via a preferred walk-on offer.

“I feel incredibly blessed to announce my official commitment to Michigan State University,” wrote Merritt on Twitter. “I am humbled and grateful to accept this PWO.”

According to 247 Sports, Merritt did have offers from Dayton and Marshall, but he will make the move to East Lansing instead. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 270 lbs., Merritt has good size for the next level, and it will be interesting to see how he develops with the Spartans. Michigan State also holds the No. 18 recruiting class nationally for 2022.
