Michigan State has officially completed its non-conference schedule to the 2022 season.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Michigan State will host Akron at Spartan Stadium on Sept. 10, 2022. The addition rounds out the non-conference schedule for the Spartans, who will also play Western Michigan (Sept. 3) and Boise State (Sept. 17) that year.

There were rumblings that Michigan State and Akron were working on an agreement in February, and Akron announced the official scheduling change Wednesday.

It’s been over 100 years since the Spartans and Zips last met on the gridiron, with the last meeting coming in 1914. Michigan State leads the all-time series 2-0.

Akron finished the 2018 season with a 4-8 record, but posted a win over B1G West champion Northwestern in non-conference play. The Zips are also under new leadership, as Tom Arth replaces Terry Bowden as head coach.

Michigan Stated ended the year 7-6 and made an appearance in the Redbox Bowl against Oregon.
