Michigan State has a new kicker joining its roster. Former Auburn kicker Ben Patton is a now a Spartan after joining from the transfer portal per Matt Wentzel of Mlive.

Patton originally saw playing time last season after Auburn’s starting kicker Anders Carlson tore his ACL against Mississippi State. Patton has played in 10 games for the Tigers.

He made 5 out of the 6 field goals he attempted last season, with a long of 49 yards. Patton’s average kickoff distance was 58.8 yards and he also had 1 touchback as well. One of the most important field goals of his career came in overtime of the Iron Bowl against Alabama back in 2021.

This could be a really nice pickup for Mel Tucker. Michigan State just lost veteran kicker Matt Coghlin. Coghlin set records in career-points scored and most field goals made.

It’ll be interesting to see if Tucker uses Patton as his kicker this fall. Patton definitely has experience kicking in clutch moments.
