Michigan State announces team captains for Saturday's home opener
Michigan State is off to a hot start to the 2021 season as they opened the year with a B1G road win against the Northwestern Wildcats 38-21 to start the season 1-0.
The Spartans have named their team captains ahead of the home opener against Youngstown State.
The Captains for this weekend are K Matt Coghlin, S Xavier Henderson and TE Connor Heyward. The common theme for all of these Spartans is that they are all seniors.

Coghlin, in 5 years with the Spartans, has never missed an XP 107-107, FGs he is 64-85 at 75.3% clip and he has nearly 300 punts at 299.
In 4 years with the team, Henderson has 148 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 6 pass deflections, and 1 fumble recovery.
In 5 years with the Spartans, Heyward has 64 catches for 413 yards on 6.5 yards per reception with 4 touchdowns. He also has 210 rushing attempts for 818 yards on 3.9 yards per carry with 5 touchdowns.
Head coach Mel Tucker wants to use Heyward as a utility player.
