Michigan State is updating the safety protocols at Spartan Stadium, the program announced in a Wednesday press release.

Beginning on Saturday for the Sept. 9 game against Richmond, Spartan Stadium will introduce new walk-through metal detectors. Those additions add to the pre-existing expansive safety and secruity portfolio.

As a part of the new procedures, fans are encouraged to arrive early in order to expedite their entry. Guests will not have to initially empty their pockets unless they set off the metal detector alarms. If they do set off the detectors, fans will be checked out individually with a security wand.

“We are committed to continuing to enhance our safety and security portfolio at Michigan State University,” said Vice President and Chief Safety Officer Marlon Lynch. “This new addition to Spartan Stadium will continue to make sure the venue remains safe for all to enjoy.”

Walk-through metal detectors are already used on Michigan State’s campus at the Breslin Center. Additional venues that will eventually receive the metal detectors include the Wharton Center, Munn Ice Arena and the MSU Tennis Center. Further details on those venues will be provided at a later date.

Saturday’s game against Richmond is set for 3:30 pm ET on BTN.
