Despite making plans to travel to Spain this summer, Michigan State basketball has decided to stay within the country’s borders.

MLive.com reports that the Spartans decided against taking the international trip this summer. Head coach Tom Izzo will likely take his team overseas in the summer of 2020, when it will be more beneficial for the team, according to the report.

Teams are permitted to take one international trip every four years, allowing them to practice and play against other teams. Michigan State last took a trip in 2015.

Izzo and the Spartans were planning on taking the trip in late August. He announced that the program had decided on traveling to Spain in April.

With Cassius Winston and Joshua Langford — among others — returning, Michigan State has a lot of talent and experience that will take the floor in the 2019-20 season. After this year, the Spartans will be much younger, hence why Izzo believes a trip next summer might be more beneficial for the program.

Michigan State is coming off a season in which it won a share of the B1G regular season championship, the B1G Tournament title and earned a trip to the NCAA Final Four.
