Mel Tucker and the Spartans just landed a nice commitment for 2022, beating out Iowa for a prospect out of Minnesota.

The player is Chase Carter, a three-star defensive lineman out of Minneapolis. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 215 lbs., the 247 Sports Composite Rankings has Carter as the sixth-best prospect out of Minnesota and the No. 129 DL nationally for the cycle.

Carter had received offers from Nebraska, Central Michigan, Iowa State, Iowa, and the Spartans. He previously trimmed his list to Iowa and Michigan State before landing with Tucker and the Spartans.
Carter’s addition brings Michigan State’s 2022 class up to 15 commitments as we head toward the end of July. He is the first defensive line commitment of the cycle for the Spartans with Michigan State holding four commitments from offensive linemen.

Best of luck to Carter now that his decision is in the rearview mirror. Hopefully he is able to make an impact during his time in East Lansing.
