No. 11 Michigan State has chosen its team captain for its big road non-conference matchup as they take on Washington for Week 3.

Redshirt junior quarterback Payton Thorne, senior linebacker Jacoby Windmon, and redshirt junior Justin White have been chosen as the team captains for Michigan State against Washington.

This Saturday’s matchup will be the third time in program history that Michigan State will face Washington. Michigan State is 1-2 versus Washington with the last game being a 51-23 Washington win in the 1997 Aloha Bowl.

The only time that Michigan State has defeated Washington was in 1969 when they won 27-11 in East Lansing.

Michigan State is coming off a 35-13 win over Western Michigan in Week 1 and a dominating 52-0 win in Week 2 over Akron. This game against Washington will be the first time Michigan State will play outside Spartan Stadium this season.

Mel Tucker will get to play against some former Hoosiers in Washington. Kalen DeBoer was an Indiana assistant in 2019, and QB Michael Penix Jr. is a recent transfer into DeBoer’s program after spending the majority of his career in Bloomington.
