One of Michigan State’s highest-rated recruits from the 2019 recruiting class has reportedly landed in the transfer portal.

The player is Julian Barnett, a four-star cornerback that was rated as the No. 3 player from Michigan and No. 8 CB nationally in 2019. He was also rated as the No. 57 player overall nationally for the class and committed to the Spartans over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and a host of many others.

Rainer Sabin with the Detroit Free Press reported the entry:

Barnett’s time in East Lansing was definitely a bit odd at times. Listed at 6-foot-2, Barnett saw most of his action as a freshman in 2019 as a wide receiver due to a lack of players at the position. He finished with 13 catches for 182 yards.

As a sophomore, Barnett returned to the defensive side of the ball but has logged just three tackles for Mel Tucker’s defense. He also has a kick return for 17 yards this season.

Considering his numerous offers coming out of high school, it will be interesting to see where Barnett winds up should he decide to leave the Spartans.
