Michigan State clinches record-tying 11th B1G regular-season title under Tom Izzo

Michigan State defeated Iowa 91-84 on the road on Thursday night, clinching the 2025 Big Ten regular season title in the process.

The Spartans are now 16-3 in Big Ten play this season. The next-closest team is rival Michigan, who sits at 14-5 ahead of the final weekend of regular-season action.

This is Michigan State’s first solo title since 2018, although the Spartans won a share of the regular-season crown in 2019 and 2020. Overall, it’s the 11th Big Ten regular season title for legendary coach Tom Izzo. He’s now tied with Bob Knight and Ward Lambert in that category all-time.

Izzo is one of the best coaches in college basketball history. Now with a share of the Big Ten regular season titles record, Izzo also has a claim to several other all-time Big Ten records.

He’s already 1st in league history with 359 overall wins, 8 Final Four appearances and 56 NCAA Tournament victories.

This year’s Michigan State team has the makings of another potential Final Four squad. The Spartans are projected to be a No. 2 seed in the Big Dance as of now, per ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. The Spartans have a veteran led by Jaden Akins and Jaxon Kohler, but freshman guard Jase Richardson has made a tremendous impact as well.

Michigan State will wrap up its Big Ten regular-season slate on Sunday against Michigan in East Lansing. After that, the Spartans will turn their attention to the Big Ten Tournament.
