Roberts was a transfer portal addition earlier this offseason. He previously played for Iowa from 2019-22. Roberts also spent the spring with Miami before transferring to Michigan State.
Roberts was not expected to start for Michigan State this season, but he could have provided depth at the cornerback position. He has 47 tackles and 2 interceptions in his collegiate career.
Charles Brantley and Dillon Tatum are expected to be the starters at cornerback for Michigan State in Week 1. Caleb Coley is another young player who could see more playing time with Roberts’ exit.
Michigan State will kick off the 2023 season on Friday at 7 p.m. ET against Central Michigan.
Michigan State is 8-3 all-time against the Chippewas. The Spartans have won 4 straight meetings in this series.
