Michigan State football is looking to rebound during the 2023 season after a 5-7 record a year ago. After growth for the program and double-digit wins in 2021, Mel Tucker’s group is trying to show they can take the next step forward after a down year.

The first game of the 2023 season is against Central Michigan and was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 2 during Week 1. On Monday, the Spartans announced the season opener has been moved off of Saturday.

Now, the season opener will be played Friday, Sept 1. Game time and TV broadcasts for the season opener have not been announced at this time.

The two sides have faced each other seven times since 2000 with the Spartans winning all but one of those contests. Central Michigan’s lone win in that span came in a 29-27 win during the 2009 season.
