Members of Michigan State’s football and basketball teams will have the opportunity to take advantage of a new name, image and likeness deal, according to multiple reports.

Mat Ishbia, a former Michigan State walk-on basketball player and who runs the United Wholesale Mortgage Company, has agreed to an NIL deal with the Spartans. The new deal will net MSU basketball and football players $500 in a monthly stipend, totaling $6,000 for the year.

Kyle Austin of MLive.com was one of multiple outlets to report the news. The deal will benefit 133 Michigan State student-athletes for the 2021-22 school year.

The total equates to around $800,000.

“The Spartan family sticks together, and that’s what makes MSU athletics so special,” Ishbia said in a statement. “Each player contributes to the team in a positive way and we’re excited to help support them, while also helping educate consumers about the benefits of independent mortgage brokers.”

Earlier this year, Ishbia donating a whopping $32 million to Michigan State’s athletic department to help upgrade facilities. It was the largest single donation from an individual in the history of the school.
