Michigan State guard Jeremy Fears was shot in the leg during Christmas break while at his hometown of Joliet, Illinois late Friday night.

Full details are still being sorted through, but Fears, who is a freshman with the Spartans, reportedly underwent surgery Saturday morning following the shooting.

Thankfully, the shooting is non-life threatening. Tom Izzo released the following statement Saturday regarding the news:

Jeremy underwent surgery this morning and is resting comfortably,” Izzo said. “While there is much we still don’t know, my focus is supporting Jeremy on his road to recovery.”

Fears has carved out a solid reserve role for the Spartans as a true freshman. He had 10 assists in this past Thursday’s game against Michigan State. Michigan State does not play again until December 30, allowing student athletes time with family.

More details will be shared on Saturday Tradition as they become available.
