Michigan State’s Independence Day celebration was a little sweeter after adding a talented tight end to its 2021 recruiting class.

On Saturday, the Spartans landed a verbal commitment from 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end Jake Renda. He will be attending IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida but is a native of Trenton, New Jersey. Renda made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

“After careful consideration over the last few weeks, I am excited to announce that I am committed to Michigan State University,” Renda wrote. “Thank you to Coach Tucker, Coach Gilmore, and entire MSU staff.”

Renda has received seven other offers on the recruiting front. He picked Michigan State over Arizona, Boston College, Central Michigan, FIU, NC State and Old Dominion.

According to 247Sports, Renda ranks as the No. 75 tight end in the 2021 recruiting class. He does not have other rankings in the 247Sports Composite at this time.

Michigan State now has 12 players committed in the 2021 recruiting class. The Spartans rank 58th nationally and 12th in the B1G.
