Michigan State earned a much-need win over rival Michigan on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans are now 15-11 on the season following their 70-64 victory over the Wolverines. Michigan State was already trending toward being on the right side of the bubble, but now things are really looking good for Tom Izzo’s squad.

Rocket Watts and Aaron Henry led the way for Michigan State, scoring 21 and 18 points, respectively. Joey Hauser also added 11 points off the bench.

Michigan was slightly undermanned, as forward Eli Brooks exited the game with an apparent ankle injury in the first half.

Michigan State now has wins over Michigan, Illinois and Ohio State in the last few weeks. Despite going through a rough stretch after a COVID-19 outbreak, the Spartans have recovered well down the stretch.

Izzo’s team will now prepare to play in the 8/9 game of the Big Ten Tournament this week. A win there would further cement the Spartans’ place in the Field of 68.

Selection Sunday is on March 14.
