Michigan State has had a tough week that started with the indefinite suspension of 4-year head coach Mel Tucker for serious sexual harassment allegations.

In the first game without Tucker as head coach, Michigan State was dominated at home by the No. 8 Washington Huskies 41-7. The Spartans’ offense accumulated 261 total yards, while the defense allowed the Huskies’ high-caliber offense to account for 713 yards.

Washington’s Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 27-of-35 of his passes for 473 yards and 4 touchdowns.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Spartans only rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries for an average of 2 yards per carry. Quarterback Noah Kim completed 12-of-31 of his passes for 136 yards, an interception and a QBR of 22.2.

Michigan State was at the top of USA Today college football writer Dan Wolken’s Misery Index list as he described that it is in the beginning of a tough and sudden rebuild. A combination of Tucker’s suspension, the university’s toxic culture and the devastating loss on their own field is crippling the football program which is going to have a tough time recovering.

Michigan State (2-1) is set to open B1G play on Saturday by hosting the Maryland Terrapins (3-0).
