Michigan State is getting set for its season opener in a couple weeks.

The Spartans defeated Ferris State 92-58 in their first exhibition game Wednesday night at the Breslin Center. Now, Michigan State is gearing up for its final tune-up Nov. 4 against Grand Valley State.

Forward Gabe Brown led Michigan State with 19 points and freshman Max Christie chipped in 17. Despite scoring 92 points, they were the only Spartans to reach double-digit scoring on a night the team shot 52% from the floor and 36.4% from three-point land. On defense, Michigan State held Ferris State to just 31.7% shooting from the floor, including 25% from three-point territory.

With so many new faces this year, Michigan State was left out of the AP Top 25 — something that “ticked off” coach Tom Izzo. The Spartans will play their last exhibition game Nov. 4 against GVSU before starting the regular season Nov. 9 against Kansas as part of the Champions Classic.
