Michigan State has informed 3-star cornerback Steffan Johnson, a member of the Spartans’ 2021 recruiting class, that he will not be permitted to join the program following his arrest. Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reported the news on Friday evening.
Johnson was been arrested and charged for extortion directing or promoting sexual performance by a child, according to a report from Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press. The news broke on Thursday.
According to the report, Johnson was in jail and was charged with the crime in North Port, Florida. From the Detroit Free Press:
The 18-year-old Johnson accused of threatening a juvenile female of posting sexual videos of the alleged victim on social media. The video allegedly was recorded when the victim was 15 and Johnson was 17, according to police, and Johnson is accused to have “threatened to injure the reputation” of the victim.
The girl met Johnson at the end of a street near the girl’s home, according to police. When she denied Johnson a kiss and walked home, she reportedly “received a video of herself performing oral sexual acts” on Johnson through a text message.
Johnson was scheduled to arrive on campus over the summer.
