It’s been a fun Monday for Mel Tucker and the Michigan State football program. That may sound strange after a 49-7 loss, but landing a pair of really talented recruits helps ease the pain.

Not long after the Spartans landed the pledge of 4-star DT Rayshaun Benny — a Top 200 prospect in the 2021 recruiting class — they received another verbal commitment. This time, 3-star offensive lineman Brandon Baldwin made the announcement.

Baldwin is currently attending Independence Community College, which competes at the junior college level.

Baldwin had received offers from six other programs during the recruiting process. He picked Michigan State over Louisville, Maryland, Eastern Michigan, Liberty, Missouri State and Western Illinois.

The 6-foot-7, 315-pound offensive lineman ranks as the No. 44 junior college prospect in the 2021 class. He’s also listed as the No. 4 offensive tackle for the cycle.

Michigan State was already able to beat out Penn State and Michigan for Benny’s commitment, so adding Baldwin to the class gave the staff another reason to celebrate.

With the two commitments on Monday, Michigan State now has 18 members in the 2021 recruiting class. The Spartans currently rank 10th in the B1G and 47th nationally.

Benny is currently the highest-rated prospect in the class, listed as No. 188 overall by 247Sports.
