Michigan State picked up a new offensive playmaker in the transfer portal on Monday.

The Spartans earned a commitment from former Oregon State tight end Jack Velling. He’s the latest former Oregon State player to commit to Michigan State this offseason.

Here’s his announcement:

This is a huge addition for Michigan State’s 2024 roster. Velling was widely-regarded as one of the top available tight ends in the transfer portal.

Velling had a significant role with the Beavers in 2023, which was his sophomore season. He caught 29 passes for 438 yards and 8 touchdowns. He’ll now arrive in East Lansing with two years of eligibility remaining.

Velling follows his former head coach (Jonathan Smith) and backup quarterback (Aiden Chiles) in moving to Michigan State via Corvallis. Brian Wozniak, Velling’s TE coach at Oregon State, has also joined Michigan State’s coaching staff in that same role.

Velling and Chiles are Michigan State’s first two transfer additions of the 2024 cycle so far.
