Michigan State landed another transfer piece Saturday night, scooping up a veteran offensive lineman with a decorated FCS career.

The player is Luke Newman, a 6-foot-4 and 310-pound offensive lineman from Holy Cross. Newman played his high school football at Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and his transfer to Michigan State is a homecoming of sorts.

A member of the 2020 recruiting class, Newman saw action in 3 games as a true freshman before a breakout performance in 2021. As a sophomore, Newman was an All-Patriot League selection after starting 13 games as the left tackle.

Across the 2022-23 seasons, Newman would be named an FCS All-American with 24 appearances for the program. He brings 40 career appearances with him to East Lansing.

Newman is the 11th transfer commitment for Michigan State since Jonathan Smith was hired to lead the program. That group ranks 20th nationally in the transfer recruiting rankings produced by 247 Sports.
