Michigan State has a key first piece for its 2025 recruiting class.

Leo Hannan, a quarterback from the West Coast, has verbally committed to play for Jonahtan Smith’s program. Hannan shared the big news with Hayes Fawcett of On3.

A standout of Anaheim (California) Servite High School, Hannan is listed as measuring 6-4, 210 pound. On the 247Sports Composite, Hannan is rated 3-stars, the No. 50 quarterback, No. 64 recruit in the state of California and No. 813 prospect overall in the Class of 2025.

Hannan committed to Michigan State over offers from 15 other programs. Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Washington were among the other programs to show interest.

Target acquired for Jonathan Smith’s staff

Hannan is a big get for the Spartans. He was the first quarterback recruit to receive an MSU offer from Smith and offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren upon their arrival in East Lansing.

Fans may not get too excited for a commitment from a 3-star prospect ranked the No. 50 quarterback, but looking at Hannan’s play, it’s easy to see why Smith and Lindgren wanted to get him on board with the Spartans. Hannan shows impressive arm strength and mobility.

There is plenty of time, too, for Hannan to move up in the recruiting rankings between now and December’s Early Signing Period. At this stage, it’s a huge plus for Smith and his staff to have a quarterback pledge on board to help sell the vision to summer visitors who could be joining Hannan in the 2025 recruiting class.
