Grimes did not play for Texas A&M in 2023 due to a lower-body injury. He entered the transfer portal this offseason having not played a down for the Aggies.
However, Grimes was a multi-year contributor for North Carolina prior to transferring to A&M. He was credited with 97 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack across 3 seasons with UNC. He also had 1 interception and 1 forced fumble during his time in Chapel Hill.
Grimes was an elite recruit back in the class of 2020. He was the No. 28 overall player and the No. 3 cornerback in the country for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
Michigan State now has 9 transfer commits so far this offseason. Grimes will have 1 season of eligibility remaining in East Lansing.
