A Michigan State linebacker has decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal for the second time in his college career.

Ben VanSumeren, who transferred to Michigan State from in-state rival Michigan, has re-entered the portal, per Matt Zenitz of On 3. VanSumeren spent just one season with the Spartan, playing in all 13 contests and registering 12 tackles on the year.

Prior to his time at Michigan State, VanSumeren spent 3 seasons at Michigan. He played in 15 games with the Wolverines, playing fullback and linebacker.

In 2019, VanSumeren had 5 carries for 20 yards while appearing in 5 contests. In 2020, he was credited with 7 tackles while playing in all 6 games for Michigan.

A member of the 2018 recruiting class, VanSumeren was a 3-star prospect to commit to Michigan. He has spent time on both sides of the football during his college career but appears to be locked into the linebacker role.

VanSumeren will have still have two years of eligibility to use at his next destination.
