Michigan State linebacker target sets commitment date
Michigan State has yet to earn a verbal commitment from a linebacker so far during the 2024 cycle. It’s hoping that changes soon.
Los Alamitos (Calif.) High linebacker Kamar Mothudi is a priority target for the Spartans, and he’s set to reveal his college commitment on July 11 at 7 p.m. ET on the 247Sports YouTube channel. The blue-chip defender will pick from a group of finalists that includes MSU alongside Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Texas.

Mothudi took an official visit to East Lansing on June 9. He also took officials to each of his 3 Pac-12 finalists. The Ducks are viewed as the favorites to land his commitment, but the Spartans — with Scottie Hazelton taking the lead — have kept themselves in the picture leading up to decision day.
He told 247Sports’ Greg Biggins that part of the appeal goes beyond just football, that Michigan State offers a major track that aligns exactly with what he wants to focus on.
A multi-sport athlete, Mothudi is viewed as one of the top linebackers in the 2024 class. He’s rated as a 4-star recruit in the industry-generated 247 Composite and ranked as the No. 217 prospect in the national player rankings. He’s the 19th-ranked linebacker in his class.
He was an absolute workhorse as a junior last fall, rushing for 1,345 yards and 18 touchdowns on offense while totaling 104 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 2 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble on defense.
