Michigan State makes change at quarterback for game at Rutgers
Michigan State will have a new player at quarterback as it faces Rutgers on Saturday.
Noah Kim has been the Spartans’ starter thus far in 2023. However, he has been benched in favor of redshirt freshman Katin Houser, who will receive his first collegiate start.
Houser, a Southern California native, was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2022 and considered the No. 14 quarterback in the country. He appeared in 2 games as a true freshman. In 2023, he has seen time in 4 games, including Maryland on Sept. 23, where he was 6-of-10 for 75 yards and an interception.
The Spartans have found themselves mired in a 3-game losing streak. They beat Central Michigan and Richmond to open the season, but since then they have lost to Washington, Maryland, and Iowa. Against the Hawkeyes, Kim was 25-of-44 for 193 yards and threw 3 interceptions.
Interim head coach Harlon Barnett, named to the post after the firing of Mel Tucker, has now opted to make a change behind center.
