Michigan State makes Oxford High School shooting victim honorary member of 2022 recruiting class
On Day 1 of the Early Signing Period, Michigan State had a touching tribute planned.
Spartans coach Mel Tucker welcomed Oxford High School football player Tate Myre as an honorary member of the MSU Class of 2022 signees. Myre was one of 4 victims who were shot and killed during the Oxford High School shooting on Nov. 30.

Myre is a sophomore who recently took a recruiting trip to Toledo prior to his tragic death. Tucker described the passion Myre exuded on the football field and his dream of one day becoming a Spartan.
“Tate Myre had an unmatched work ethic, athleticism, and love for his teammates. He had a passion to one day play for Michigan State. This passion was paired with an unstoppable drive and follow-through to get there. Tate’s consistency on and off the football field elevated everyone who knew him,” Tucker said. “Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of Hana St. Juliana, Justin Shilling, Madisyn Baldwin, and Tate Myre. And we will continue to support the Oxford community any way that we can.”
