Michigan State receives pledge from talented K/P in 2021 class
Michigan State’s special teams unit is getting a boost.
Over the weekend, the Spartans received a pledge from kicker/punter Garrison Smith, who will be joining the team as a walk-on. He has received high rankings as both a kicker and punter and has earned a 5-star rating from Kohl’s Kicking Camps.
Per Kohl’s Kicking Camps, Smith ranks as the No. 13 punter and No. 19 kicker in the nation, earning a 5-star rating in both areas. He’s also listed as the No. 7 kicker by Kornblue Kicking system.

Right now, it’s unclear whether Smith will be in the mix to be a kicker or punter, or potentially both while at Michigan State. Either way, he should add some stability to the special teams unit in East Lansing.
Smith does not have any rankings from 247Sports. Per his player profile, he was considering a walk-on spot between Michigan State and Cincinnati, and the Spartans ultimately won the battle.
Smith is a member of the 2021 recruiting class. Michigan State’s incoming class currently ranks 40th nationally and 9th in the B1G.
