Michigan State has added another piece to the 2022 recruiting puzzle.

Thursday evening, the Spartans received a verbal commitment from 3-star tight end Jack Nickel. It was an addition out of the heart of SEC country, as Nickel is a native of Alpharetta, Georgia. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end received nearly 30 offers on the recruiting trail.

Nickel becomes the 14th member of the 2022 recruiting class to commit to Mel Tucker and staff. He’s just the second player to verbally pledge in July, joining IMG Academy cornerback Ade Willie.

Nickel is listed just outside the Top 500 nationally per 247Sports Composite, coming in at No. 509 overall. He’s considered to be a Top 25 tight end and one of the 50 best players out of Georgia.

Michigan State beat some major programs to land the pledge from Nickel. He also received offers from Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Iowa, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State and Wisconsin, among many others.

No stats have been updated from Nickel’s 2020 season, but in 2019, he was credited with 27 catches for 327 yards and 3 touchdowns at Milton High School.

Michigan State’s 2022 recruiting class is listed inside the Top 40 nationally, per 247Sports Composite.
