Michigan State is losing a former blue-chip prospect to the transfer portal, according to a report.
Sophomore guard Pierre Brooks is entering the portal, per On3’s Joe Tipton. Brooks was a 4-star prospects in the Spartans’ 2021 recruiting class.
He made that announcement on Wednesday morning:

Brooks has had a role with Michigan State over the past couple of seasons, but mostly as an off-the-bench option. This past season, he averaged 14.3 minutes per game, making 5 starts. He appeared in 55 total games for Michigan State during his time in East Lansing.
It’s a disappointing outcome for the program following his high-profile recruitment. Brooks, a Detroit native, was the No. 61 overall player in the country for the class of 2021, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
Michigan State is coming off of yet another Sweet 16 appearance. The Spartans have reached the 2nd weekend of the NCAA Tournament 15 times during Tom Izzo’s tenure.
Michigan State has not missed the NCAA Tournament since 1997.
