With Michigan State and the rest of the Big Ten wrapping the 2021 regular season on Saturday, expect to see players hitting the transfer portal not just from East Lansing, but around the league. The Spartans reportedly lost their 4th player to the portal this season on Sunday.
According to multiple reports, defensive back Michael Dowell has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer.
Per The Detroit Free Press’s Chris Solari, Dowell was a starter for the first 4 games of the season in East Lansing, but played as a backup in the team’s final 6 games. He had 40 tackles and 3 pass breakups this season.
An Ohio native, Dowell redshirted in 2018. He has appeared in every game for the Spartans over the past 3 seasons, registering 81 total tackles and 5 pass breakups.
Dowell was a 3-star recruit in the 2018 class. He was the 31st-rated safety prospect, the 18-ranked player from the state of Ohio, and the No. 459 prospect overall, per the 247Sports Composite.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
