Michigan State signee Pierre Brooks II was officially named Michigan Mr. Basketball on Friday.

eBrooks attends Douglass Academy in Detroit. He’s listed at 6-foot-6, 205 pounds and signed with the Spartans back in November of 2020.

This award was voted on by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. It’s given annually to the top senior in the state of Michigan.

As a senior, Brooks averaged 33.1 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while leading Douglass Academy to a state championship.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Brooks is the No. 66 overall player and the No. 12 small forward in the 2021 recruiting class. He chose Michigan State over offers from Arizona State, Butler, Illinois, Iowa and Michigan, amongst others.

He’ll be joining forces with 5-star shooting guard Max Christie and 4-star point guard Jaden Akins. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Michigan State has the No. 8 recruiting class in the country and the No. 2 class in the Big Ten.

Foster Loyer was the last Michigan State signee to win this award, doing so in 2018. Cassius Winston (2016) is another notable winner who played for the Spartans.
