Michigan state star defensive lineman Kenny Willekes had to be carted off the field on Monday after what appeared to be a knee injury in the Redbox Bowl.

Willekes was one of the top defensive linemen in the country this season and was even named the B1G Defensive lineman of the Year. He sustained the injury in the third quarter of the Redbox Bowl matchup against Oregon.

Willekes is still debating whether or not he’ll return to Michigan State for his senior season. The injury certainly doesn’t help matters if he was looking to enter the NFL Draft.

According to Bruce Feldman, Willekes was having is left ankle X-rayed. He was unlikely to return.

Willekes played in all 12 regular season games for the Spartans, recording 20.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He finished the season with 76 total tackles.

There hasn’t been any update on the injury or Willekes’ status following his departure from the game.
