Michigan State is gearing up for the 2023 season, and the Spartans will have some new uniform threads in the fall.
Friday evening, the Spartans unveiled a combination that has been teased throughout the offseason. That combination is an all-black set with some features that pay homage to MSU basketball uniforms.
The black uniforms feature white letters outlined in green. The uniform also contains the green pattern columns seen on basketball uniforms in the shoulder panels, pant legs, collar and as a center stripe on the helmet.
The combination is topped off by a black helmet with the aforementioned pattern column and a green spartan logo. Here’s the full reveal:

Michigan State followed up the reveal by announcing the introduction of the pattern column as a helmet stripe will be utilized across other combinations. That includes MSU’s all-green, all-white and green uniform with white pants combinations:

In recent years, Michigan State has stepped up its uniform game, though not all reveals have been a hit. The Spartans have rocked a neon look in recent seasons that did not go over well, to say the least.
How does the new look compare to recent uniforms for the Spartans? It’s no “Gruff Sparty” throwback, but Michigan State’s new combo successfully integrates an all-black look while maintaining the emphasis on the green and white. We’ll see if fans approve of the look.
