Michigan State will kick off Big Ten play with a home matchup against Maryland on Saturday. The Spartans unveiled the throwback helmet they’ll don for the conference opener.

The green helmet features a classic script font in white letters spelling out MAC to signify its former status as Michigan Agriculture College.

Michigan State (2-1) is coming off a 41-7 loss against Washington in its first game under interim head coach Harlon Barnett. Michigan State intends to fire head coach Mel Tucker with cause and without pay for his alleged sexual harassment against Brenda Tracy.

Quarterback Noah Kim completed 12 of his 31 passes for 136 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. Katie Houser rushed for a 4-yard touchdown for Michigan State’s lone score. Jaden Mangham recorded an interception and led the Spartans with 8 total tackles.

Michigan State allowed Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to throw for 473 yards, 4 touchdowns and no interceptions. Washington also dominated on the ground with 177 yards on 5.4 yards per carry.

Maryland most recently notched a 42-14 victory against Virginia to remain undefeated at 3-0. This the the 3rd consecutive season Maryland has started 3-0 under head coach Michael Locksley.

Michigan State leads the all-time series 10-3 against Maryland. However, Maryland took last season’s matchup 27-13 in College Park.
