January. February. Izzo.

The 2023 NCAA Tournament has absolutely delivered. Michigan State punched its ticket to the Sweet 16 in another thriller, downing Marquette 69-60. With the win, the Spartans will take on Kansas State for a spot in the Elite 8 next week.

Tyson Walker led the way for the Spartans, but it was a group effort against a strong Marquette squad. Walker dropped 23, AJ Hoggard dropped 13 while Joey Hauser added 14 points of his own. Hauser and Mady Sissoko both had 10 rebounds on the day, as well.

Michigan State did everything just slightly better than Shaka Smart’s squad. They outrebounded the Golden Eagles (36-30), shot better from the field (44% vs. 39%), had less turnovers (13 vs. 16) and shot better from the free throw line (83% vs. 64%). Michigan State won despite shooting 2-16 from range.

Michigan State will take on Kansas State on Thursday. Times have not yet been announced. The Spartans are looking to make their 4th Elite 8 in the past 10 seasons against Jerome Tang’s red-hot Wildcats.

And if history is any indicator, Michigan State’s season isn’t ending any time soon.
