MSU’s season-opener against the Utah State Aggies won’t impact the conference standings, but for Mark Dantonio’s squad to get back to a New Year’s Six bowl game, it’s important for the Spartans not to stumble out of the gate. Below, follow along for the score, live updates and stats.

The lead up
Saturday Tradition News: Spartans captain says experiencing ups and downs will help him lead in 2018
Khari Willis, Brian Lawerke, and Joe Bachie were recently named Michigan State’s team captains for 2018. Bachie says having experienced both good and bad seasons has helped shape him as a leader.
“You look at all three of us and we’ve been here for the ups and downs,” Bachie said. “Those two guys went to the playoffs, come back, (go) 3-9, get to 10-3 last year. We know the rights and wrongs; the dos and don’ts. That’s something that we can give to this team and move forward with.”
Saturday Tradition News: Michigan State standout CB to miss significant time due to injury
In case you missed it, CB Josiah Scott won’t be playing Friday. Scott will be sidelined for two months due to an injury, Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio said during the team’s media day in early August.
Scott was injured during a non-contact drill. He was expected to be a starter this fall.
