Michigan State WR Jayden Reed switching to iconic jersey number worn by former Spartan receivers
Jayden Reed is switching to a new number for 2021, and it will be a familiar look for Spartans fans.
In a video shared by MSU Football Tuesday, the Spartans revealed that Reed will be switching from No. 5 to No. 1 for the upcoming season. That number should be familiar to Michigan State fans as former standouts Andre Rison and Charles Rogers also donned the single digit.
Rison played for the Spartans from 1985-88 and finished with 146 catches for 2,992 yards and 20 touchdowns. Rogers played just two seasons in East Lansing, from 2001-02, but finished with 135 catches for 2,821 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Reed also reacted to the video on social media by paying honor to Rogers who passed away in 2019:

Reed transferred to the Spartans after one season at Western Michigan in 2018. In his first season on the field in East Lansing, Reed finished with 33 catches for 407 yards and three touchdowns.
With the number change likely comes increased expectations after seeing what Rison and Rogers did while with the Spartans. Hopefully, Reed is ready for an even bigger breakout season in 2021.
