The Heisman hype train for Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III is rapidly picking up steam. He’s the first back in the Big Ten to hit 1,000 yards on the season, leads the league in carries, leads the league in touchdowns, and is 1 of only 4 running backs in all of college football with at least 30 runs of 10 yards or more this season.

Walker has been doing it all for the Spartans. But no performance was bigger than his 197-yard, 5-touchdown outing against in-state rival Michigan last Saturday. The bruising runner was instrumental in erasing a 30-14 deficit and capping a 37-33 win over the Wolverines. It helped Michigan State move to 8-0 on the year and land at No. 3 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings.

On Wednesday, the Spartans dropped a hype video to showcase Walker’s Heisman candidacy. “The film doesn’t lie,” the Spartans tweeted. “K9 for Heisman.”

Well, Jenny Taft, a sideline reporter for FOX, showcased a different endorsement of Walker on her Twitter feed—a behind-the-scenes video of Walker’s teammate, Elijah Collins, hyping him up during Walker’s postgame interview with Taft.

“The best running back in the country right here,” Collins said, pointing to Walker. “I promise you. I’ll let the world know, I don’t care. He puts the work in. he does everything he has to do.”

Collins, a junior, has just 3 carries for 32 yards this season. Last season, he had 41 carries, and in 2019 he led the Spartans in rushing with 222 attempts and 988 yards. Walker just arrived this offseason after transferring in from Wake Forest. That’s a proud and selfless teammate right there.

The Spartans are back in action Saturday when they face Purdue at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
