Michigan State’s defense is at it again.

In the first quarter of Saturday’s B1G matchup between the Spartans and Northwestern, the Wildcats had pieced together an excellent drive trailing 7-0 and was on the verge of tying the contest. Having two plays to score from one yard out, the Wildcats attempted two run played to try and get into the end zone.

It didn’t work.

On a third down play, linebacker Joe Bachie grabbed the legs of a leaping Isaiah Bowser, slamming him to the ground before the goal line. Then, on fourth down, Northwestern attempted an option, which didn’t end well. The Spartans got the stand, keeping the Wildcats out of the end zone.

The questions about Michigan State having nothing to do with the defense. Will the Spartans be able to score enough to get their first B1G win of the season?

The defense is certainly doing its job early.
