Mel Tucker is the B1G Coach of the Year.

Tuesday afternoon, Big Ten Network revealed the award winners of the individual defensive and special teams honors, as well the B1G All-Defensive teams for the 2021 campaign. To close out the awards portion of the show, the conference revealed the B1G Coach of the Year.

Tucker receives the honor after leading the Spartans to a 10-2 record. It was a huge turnaround after Michigan State finished just 2-5 in 2020. Tucker is in his second season with the program.

Michigan State’s season included marquee wins over Miami, in-state rival Michigan and Penn State. It was the first time the program hit a double-digit win total since finishing 10-3 in 2017 under Mark Dantonio.

Tucker is the fastest coach in program history to hit the 10-win mark. He was also the first coach at Michigan State to start with a 2-0 record vs. Michigan.
