Minnesota Vikings getting blasted on social media for questionable trick play involving Kirk Cousins
The Minnesota Vikings tried to pull a fast one in Sunday’s playoff game against the New York Giants. Kirk Cousins was used in a trick play to try and pick up a first down.
Cousins caught the snap in shotgun and flipped the ball to WR Justin Jefferson. Jefferson then threw the ball back to Cousins, who didn’t even gain a yard on third down. The Giants’ defense was not fooled one bit by what Minnesota tried to do.
Football fans came out of the wood work to question Minnesota’s decision after the interesting play call.
It’s understandable that teams would try to take more chances being that it’s not the playoffs, but this one just didn’t make any sense. Any fan could tell you that Cousins is not very much of a runner at the quarterback position.
Here are the some of the reactions to the trick play attempt:
can’t believe getting kirk cousins the ball in a spot where he had to shake guys in the open field didn’t work

What was that did you throw it twice just for Kirk Cousins to try and run for a yard

I understand that coaches have to be willing to think outside the box in the playoffs — but the third-and-1 throwback to Kirk Cousins is several light years outside the box.

Just really great to run a long developing plays that ends with Kirk Cousins needing to run like 6 yards on 3rd and 1 https://t.co/OmMd0dRcwC

Uh… Justin Jefferson is great at catching the football, and Kirk Cousins is pretty good at throwing it…
Let’s not reverse those roles… like ever again.

I know when I need a third and one conversion, it’s time to throw a pass to Kirk Cousins.

On third and 1, the play was a Jefferson reverse pass back to Kirk Cousins. The short yardage deal all year has been mind-boggling.
