Michigan State is peaking at the right time.

After knocking off Ohio State and thrashing Penn State to clinch the B1G East title, it’s clear the Spartans are rising heading into the postseason.

Still, however, they were locked in at the same spot in the College Football Playoff poll as they were last week. Michigan State will take a No. 5-ranking into Saturday’s B1G Championship against Iowa, which came in at No. 4.

Despite the rankings, the Spartans are four-point favorites to win the conference title game and essentially clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff for the first time.

Like they were in the AP and Coaches polls, the Spartans were one of three B1G teams in the top six. Ohio State still found itself behind the Spartans at No. 6 following its 42-13 victory in Ann Arbor on Saturday.

With a convincing win in the B1G Championship, the Spartans could possibly move up to the No. 3 spot with Oklahoma idle.
