MSU interim president issues statement on 'concerning' allegations regarding UM
Michigan State is preparing to face Michigan Saturday night in the annual in-state rivalry, but another layer of drama was added to the series Thursday.
It was reported that Jim Harbaugh’s program is being investigated for allegations of sign-stealing this season. Sign stealing itself is not prohibited, but certain methods, including the use of electronic devices and in-person scouting of future opponents, are against NCAA rules.
Here is Woodruff’s full statement:
As we look forward to the football game this Saturday, we are chagrined by the news of the NCAA investigation and we echo the Big Ten Conference’s commitment to integrity. The allegations are concerning, but will be handled through the NCAA’s processes. MSU has no further comment on that matter. The university is focused on supporting our own team and preparing campus for a safe game-day environment.
The Big Ten has confirmed the investigation is ongoing and teams on Michigan’s future schedule have been informed per reports. We’ll see how Saturday’s game plays out, but it is definitely an interesting time for the rivalry series between the two programs.
