No. 11 Michigan State uses late surge to sink Ohio State

Michigan State used a 20-2 run in the final eight minutes of Sunday’s matchup against Ohio State to down the Buckeyes and remain atop the B1G standings.

The Buckeyes and Spartans were knotted a 42-42 with 7:40 remaining in the game, but Michigan State kicked things into high gear late, going on a 20-2 run to close out the contest and post a 62-44 victory. MSU improved to 12-3 in the conference with the win, now tied with Michigan for the No. 1 spot in the league.

Ohio State dropped to 6-8 in B1G play.

The Spartans were led by Matt McQuaid, who had 14 points in the game. Cassius Winston followed with 13 points and eight assists. Kenny Goins finished the afternoon with a double-double, getting 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Kaleb Wesson was the only Buckeye to reach double figures, scoring 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds. C.J. Jackson pitched in with eight points.

Sunday’s victory marked the third straight for Michigan State, which is now 21-5 overall on the year. It has five games remaining, including two head-to-head contests with in-state rival Michigan still left on the schedule.
